Five time Olympian and 2014 European 10,000m champion Jo Pavey returned to her former school The Kings, Ottery St Mary on Wednesday 12 October to present a commemorative piece of the London 2012 athletics track that she and so many other Olympic legends raced on four years ago.

Jo presented a large, decorative framed piece of the track to her former secondary school as a memento of her sporting achievements, and was also presented with her own piece of track in a box to cherish her memories from London forever.

During her visit to The King’s School, Pavey said:

“I am delighted to be here today to present my old school with this beautiful piece of track from London 2012.

“When I was a student at The King’s School, they inspired me to get into distance running. It was my PE teacher who first introduced me to running longer distances when she asked me to run around the playing fields at the school. It was here that I first discovered my love of running and I would like to thank the school for helping me start my career.”

Rob Gammon, Head of The King’s School expressed his delight at receiving the track from Jo:

“We would like to thank Jo so much for returning here today to offer us a gift that we will cherish forever and we hope that it will encourage many of our students to aspire to the successes of the stars of London 2012.”

The London 2012 track that Pavey ran alongside athletics stars such as Mo Farah, Jess Ennis-Hill and Usain Bolt on has been removed and replaced ahead of the London 2017 IAAF World Championships and World Para-Athletics Championships next summer.

Pieces of the original London 2012 track have been made into a range of exclusive sporting memorabilia and are available to purchase in our online shop.
